Dependencies and practical limits

Drive an HD44780 character LCD with parallel data pins.

This is the parallel HD44780 interface. It is distinct from the I2C-backpack library.

Check the data/control wiring and display contrast before assuming a blank display is a compile problem.

No additional catalog dependencies are required.

For a missing header, first compare the include to the example below. For an undeclared identifier, inspect the first diagnostic and selected board rather than changing every library version.

Board compile matrix

These are recorded compile/link results for the current build and exact source hash. UNTESTED means no matching proof, not an assumed pass. Memory values belong to the listed example and exclude runtime stack/heap or dynamic buffers.

LCD Hello World example

This is the actual pinned example available in Circuitera. Pin choices and wiring in a general example use Uno unless otherwise stated; review the selected board reference for other targets.

#include <LiquidCrystal.h>
LiquidCrystal lcd(12, 11, 5, 4, 3, 2); // RS, E, D4, D5, D6, D7
void setup() { lcd.begin(16, 2); lcd.print("Hello, maker!"); }
void loop() { lcd.setCursor(0, 1); lcd.print(millis() / 1000); }
